Strong & Steady / Tai Chi

As we get older, our bones and muscles naturally get weaker, and our coordination and balance suffer. Strong and Steady is an ongoing group program that includes arthritis-appropriate exercises.  The 45 minute class consists of a 5-minute warm-up, 5-minute aerobic workout, 20 minute strength training, 10-minute stretching workout, and 5-minute cool-down. Exercises are used to increase strength, improve flexibility, balance and boost activity levels. The class is geared to adults with arthritis, older adults, and anyone who is interested in increasing their physical activity level.

The Strong & Steady Difference

As we get older our bones become weaker, we lose strength, and are more likely to fall.  Regular strength exercises help.  There are some free programmes like NHS Steady Steps.  Water aerobics classes can also be effective.

However, NHS programmes are infrequent, difficult to get into, and often in not convenient locations. Water aerobics usually require a monthly membership, so you pay even if you don't go.

The difference with my classes is that you only pay for the classes that you attend.  They are inexpensive, open to all, and based on US and UK physio-approved exercises for older adults.

Strong & Steady Tai Chi

Strong & Steady Tai Chi is an ongoing group program that combines elements from our Strong & Steady class and our popular Tai Chi for Better Balance course. The 45 minute class consists of a 5-minute warm-up, 15 minute strength and stretching workout, and 25 minutes of Tai Chi and Qigong.

This class will help you to increase strength, improve flexibility, balance and boost activity levels.

Teresa was extremely welcoming and her knowledge of senior’s exercise needs and limitations was immediately obvious. She takes interest in all her students and offers an fun mix of music to exercise to. I met Teresa after I retired in 2011. I immediately loved the classes. Anyone that has the privilege to know and work with Teresa reaps the benefits of her knowledge, professionalism, and enthusiasm.

I am aged 66 and have Osteoporosis.  Teresa's classes are exactly the type of exercise my doctor has prescribed for maintaining my wellness and strength. These classes have helped me immensely in maintaining my coordination and balance.

In less than six months, I have become more flexible and have developed stronger legs and arms, which have improved my balance. Many of my friends have commented that I move/walk like a much younger person. Oh, and by the way her classes are fun and always upbeat!

Moving to rock’n’roll music while lifting weights and using exercise bands makes Teresa’s 45-minute class fly by. Teresa’s classes have been a godsend during the pandemic.
