Teresa Headshot

Happy Days Fitness

I’m Teresa, a dance fitness professional with 30 years of teaching experience. My classes are designed with the older active adult in mind. Come join me!

You’ll find a place where you can safely exercise to great music, while having lots of fun. I’ll guide and motivate you with great routines, from the warm up to the cool down.  My exercises are all safe movements based on my extensive training both in the UK and in the US.  I create all my own choreography, and give safe modifications where a particular movement might not suit everyone.  I’ve been teaching Zumba Gold, Senior Strength, Balance, Latin, Salsa, Swing, Ballroom, and Children’s Dance for over thirty years, and am a Health and Wellness professional.

I promise that you'll feel happier and healthier after every class.

The strength and balance I have achieved though this class allows me to walk with more ease and strength over logs, rocky areas and uneven paths. The fitness levels I have achieved keep me safe and allow me to continue my quality of life despite my medical diagnosis. I am forever grateful to Teresa.

About Me

I've been dancing since I was seven, and teaching dance since I was sixteen. From Peggy Spencer's dance studio in London, to teaching Salsa in Hong Kong, to teaching dance to PE instructors all over the US, I love bringing the joy and confidence that dance gives to everyone, of all ages and ability. However, as a dancer, I've always been conscious of the need to train safely, and this is especially true as I've gotten older.

When I discovered Zumba many years ago I thought it was the perfect way for people to dance to fantastic Latin music, but then I began to feel that many of the dances included potentially harmful or difficult movements. The mostly young instructors didn't have the education or experience needed to accommodate older adults. Over the years the music they use has also changed and become more hip-hop and techno. I've found the same is true for classes by Les Mills and others that you find in fitness classes and gyms. I am often told by new students that they have tried other dance fitness classes before, but didn't like them - for just the same reasons that I found.

I knew that I could do better. I started to create all my own choreography, and I adapted routines from dancers that I admired. As a result, I hope that my choreography feels like you are really dancing to the music. Wherever there are movements that might be hard on the knees or back, I try to suggest modifications, and alternatively, suggest ways you can spice it up if you want a stronger workout. As for the music, it has always been an important part of dancing for me, so I mostly use original classics from the 50's through the 90's, or foot-tapping re-releases. I happily pay the license fees because great music is worth it.

My promise is that you'll leave my classes feeling better than you did when you came. I'll put a smile on your face, and you'll be happier, healthier, and fitter.  If you don't, I'm doing something wrong.

But now it's up to you. It starts with a decision to try something different. Your first class is always free and you don't need to have danced before. Just bring yourself, in comfortable clothes. If you find certain movement difficult, just do what you can or follow my modifications. Dance like no-one is watching - because they aren't! You owe it to yourself - it's time to feel good again!
